A company offering an “immersive” entertainment experience will soon unveil its first Johnson County location.

Escapology, a Florida-based company specializing in escape rooms, aims to open its new Leawood location soon, perhaps by the end of this month, according to an email from a company representative.

Escapology will open at 5029 W. 117th St.

  • The entertainment facility is coming to a space on the north side of the Town Center Plaza shopping center, just off 119th Street and Roe Avenue.
  • The space was previously occupied by the Health House fitness center before it closed sometime in 2019.
  • Escapology will also operate near Blue Chip Cookies & Ice Cream and Anthony Vince Nail Spa.

Escapology offers “high-adrenaline” private escape rooms

  • The rooms at Escapology are centered around themes like superheroes, scientific missions, exploring lost cities and haunted mansions.
  • Each experience comes with 60 minutes in the escape room of choice.
  • The objective of the games is to solve various clues hidden in the rooms in order to “escape” before time runs out — though for safety reasons, doors remain unlocked during the experience.

This marks the first Escapology in Johnson County

  • The new Leawood location also serves as the first in the wider Kansas City metro for the company.
  • Escapology is headquartered in Orlando, Florida, and has roughly 70 locations across the country.
  • Outside of Johnson County, the closest Escapology location is in St. Peters, Missouri.
