Mexican eatery Abelardo’s closes Overland Park location — 3 more remain open in JoCo

The Nebraska-based Mexican restaurant still has three more locations in Johnson County.

After roughly two years, a quick-service Mexican eatery has closed one of its Johnson County locations.

As of this week, Nebraska-based Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh had closed its doors and removed its signage from one of its Overland Park locations off 135th Street and Quivira Road.

Abelardo’s was at 12210 W. 135th St.

  • The restaurant occupied a space at the Prairie Center complex, just off 135th Street and Quivira Road.
  • There, it operated near Harp Barbecue and asian eatery Saki.
  • Officials with the company did not immediately respond to the Post’s inquiries about the closure.

Abelardo’s was in that Overland Park space for 2 years

  • The restaurant opened its doors at Prairie Center in March 2023. At the time, the opening marked the eatery’s debut in Overland Park.
  • Abelardo’s serves Mexican dishes like enchiladas, tortas, quesadillas and all-day breakfast burritos.
  • Before Abelardo’s opened there, the space was occupied by fellow Mexican eatery Taco Viá.

Abelardo’s still has 3 other Johnson County locations

  • Further north, Abelardo’s opened another Overland Park location in a former Steak ‘n Shake diner in April 2024.
  • That location remains open, along with the company’s Shawnee and Olathe locations.
  • The Nebraska-based company also has two locations in Kansas City, Missouri.
