Diner chain Denny’s shutters its Merriam location

The South Carolina-based diner chain still has one remaining Johnson County location.

A well known diner chain has shuttered one of its Johnson County locations.

South Carolina-based Denny’s recently closed its Merriam location, with signage removed from the building and a note on the door notifying customers of the closure.

Denny’s was at 9001 Shawnee Mission Parkway

  • The restaurant occupied a space at the growing Merriam Grand Station development, just off Shawnee Mission Parkway and Antioch Road.
  • Denny’s had occupied that space for at least 14 years.
  • The 24-hour diner chain served breakfast items like pancakes, crepes and omelets, as well as lunch and dinner items like sandwiches, salads and burgers.

Denny’s still has another Johnson County location

  • The diner chain still has a remaining Johnson County location at 10480 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park.
  • Across the state line, Denny’s also still has locations in Raytown and Peculiar, Missouri.
  • Denny’s closed another location in Kansas City, Missouri, earlier this year amid a sweep of nationwide closures due to declining revenue.

More at the Merriam Grand Station development

  • The closure of Denny’s follows a steady string of restaurant openings in the redeveloped area surrounding its former space.
  • Earlier this year, local breakfast eatery HomeGrown and bar and restaurant 30hop opened their doors at Merriam Grand Station.
  • Burger chain Shake Shack followed suit with a new location there in September.
