Lenexa developments we’re watching in 2026

A new pool, fire station and many new developments — these are a few of the big projects we're keeping an eye on in Lenexa this year.

With the new year underway, the Post is keeping tabs on some big development projects in the ever-expanding city of Lenexa.

From new developments in the western part of the city to major projects downtown, to a rebuilt pool and new fire station, here are some of the prominent projects in Lenexa that we’ve got our eyes on.

On Dec. 12, 2025, city representatives and developers got the dirt turning on The Reserve at Copper Creek as they broke ground on the project. The initial phase includes more than 289 apartments spread across eight buildings.

In talks for about a decade, the first phase of the project earned the approval of the Lenexa City Council in 2024. In total, the plan will include more than 500 apartments spread across 15 buildings.

It is expected to be completed by 2027.

The City of Lenexa will look to turn its old City Hall into a new permanent fire station.

In October 2025, the Lenexa City Council expressed support for demolishing the old city hall and building the fire station and city IT headquarters on the civic campus along 87th Street Parkway. The $27.7 million project is included in the city’s recently approved capital improvements program.

The new building will allow for the Lenexa Fire Department to deploy emergency services quicker and more efficiently in that area of the city.

The chosen proposal was one of three designs presented to the city council to redevelop the property.

The design team behind the project determined that constructing an entirely new 27,000-square-foot building on the east portion of the property to be the most efficient and economical choice.

The Rise — Lenexa City Center

In 2025, people 55 and older got the promise of a space just for them in Lenexa City Center.

Projected to be the tallest development in Lenexa City Center, The Rise is aimed at being an active adult community, with residents required to be 55 or older.

It will include 56 one-bedroom and 76 two-bedroom apartments, as well as office and restaurant space, a parking structure, and amenities like an outdoor pool and a rooftop restaurant and bar.

An almost 14-acre development that includes 18 single-family lots and 68 townhome units distributed among 13 buildings, is planned for the western part of the city.

Located near 91st and Dunraven streets, off of Kansas Highway 7, this planned development got approval from the governing body in 2025, despite neighbors expressing their dissatisfaction with it.

One thing both sides agreed on was removing access to K-7 Highway because residents and the city alike viewed the access point as dangerous.

Solera — near K-7 and Prairie Star Parkway

One of the biggest projects in Lenexa’s pipeline is the $200 million, 75-acre mixed-use Solera development near Kansas Highway 7 and Prairie Star Parkway.

The project includes 324 apartments, 88 townhomes and 42 two-story duplexes, as well as retail space.

The development replaces the previous plan for the Falls at Prairie Star, an earlier project that included several big box stores but never came to fruition.

In the spring, Lenexa residents will welcome their second big pool renovation in two years with the $10 million Ad Astra Park and Pool project.

A complete renovation of the Lenexa pool, first built in 1998, the project includes rebuilding the pool and parking lot, installing new trail connections and constructing several new structures, including restrooms, a bathhouse and concession stalls.

Some of the changes to the pool include underwater bench seating, three 25-yard lap lanes for swimming and a deeper water area with two diving boards.

It is scheduled to open in May.

Old Town Lenexa is expected to have a new retail store this year near Pop’s Sweet Shop.

In summer 2025, the governing body approved preliminary plans for a retail space on an undeveloped area at 9213 Pflumm Road.

The one-story development includes space for three tenants. An unnamed company that specializes in custom clothing is already committed to one of the spots.

Enclave at Twin Creeks — 83rd and Clare

A 33-acre, 50-lot single-family subdivision is going forward after getting the approval of both the Lenexa Planning Commission and city council.

In December, the city council approved the rezoning and preliminary plans for Enclave at Twin Creeks, a planned single-family residential subdivision on West 83rd Street and Clare Road.

It will be located near Mill Creek Middle School and other single-family subdivisions.

The project received praised from commissioners for being a single-family residential project among many multi-family residential projects that they took up in 2025.
