A central Overland Park shopping center will soon trade acai bowls for pizza.
Following the closure of Nautical Bowls off 135th Street in Overland Park, Illinois-based pizzeria Sarpino’s is preparing to take over the space.
It will reopen there this spring after moving further south from its previous spot off 125th Street and Quivira Road.
Sarpino’s is coming to 11648 W. 135th St.
- The pizzeria is moving into a space just off 135th Street and Quivira Road, near drive-thru soda shop Swig and Hakata Sushi & Hibachi.
- The Overland Park restaurant is one of five Johnson County locations for the Illinois-based company, with locations also in Olathe, Shawnee and Leawood.
- Sarpino’s serves a variety of “specialty” pizzas like buffalo ranch chicken and margherita, as well as customizable build-your-own pizzas and some vegan pizzas.
Nautical Bowls closed at the end of 2024
- After entering Johnson County in 2023, the acai bowl shop closed both of its Johnson County locations at the end of 2024.
- Nautical Bowls had two Overland Park locations: one off 135th Street and Quivira Road, and another one inside the Cosentino’s grocery store at Bluhawk (off 159th Street and U.S. 69).
- The healthy eatery served beach-themed acai bowls with a variety of bases and toppings.
Something new will follow the restaurant’s departure
- The relocation of Sarpino’s comes as part of a larger shuffle at its old home, near the University of Kansas Edwards campus off 127th Street and Quivira Road.
- Bar and grill Tanner’s intends to open a new location there, after closing their restaurant off 119th Street and U.S. 69 in February.
- The restaurant will open in its new space later this year.
