Bojangles fried chicken chain eyeing Overland Park for JoCo debut

Chicken eatery Bojangles has filed plans to open in Overland Park, marking the North Carolina-based chain's Johnson County debut.

A North Carolina-based chicken chain is working toward a Johnson County debut.

Chicken eatery Bojangles has filed plans to renovate and move into a restaurant space in Overland Park.

Bojangles aims to open at 12005 Metcalf Ave.

  • The restaurant aims to take over a space at the Southglen shopping center, just off 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
  • Sandwich shop Boston Market previously occupied that space before it closed at the beginning of 2020.
  • The space is also near grocery stores Aldi and Pan-Asia Supermarket.

Bojangles serves Southern-inspired chicken

  • The North Carolina-based restaurant is primarily known for its chicken, which customers can get in the form of either tenders or chicken sandwiches.
  • In addition to chicken, Bojangles’ menu also offers other “fixins” like seasoned fries, cole slaw, and macaroni and cheese.
  • The chain got its start in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1977, and today it has roughly 800 restaurants across the country.

The space was initially supposed to be a coffee shop

  • Texas-based drive-thru coffee chain 151 Coffee initially set its sights on 12005 Metcalf Ave., submitting a final development plan for the space in early 2024.
  • Those plans never came to fruition, and the company did not respond to the Post’s most recent inquiries about it.
  • However, 151 Coffee did make a Johnson County debut, opening its long-awaited shop at 9180 Metcalf Ave. earlier this year.
