It’s been a few months since hot chicken eatery Mother Clucker closed its doors in Leawood.
The restaurant’s former space at the Park Place shopping center has been quiet since then, amidst other openings and closings at the shopping center.
But if things go according to plan, it won’t be quiet for much longer. A popular brunch spot hopes to be serving up dishes like breakfast burritos and pancakes there soon.
In the coming weeks, AR’s Breakfast and Brunch aims to open at Park Place.
AR’s is coming to 11635 Ash St.
- The restaurant is coming to a space on the south side of the Park Place shopping center, near the Aloft hotel and beach-themed coffee shop Outta the Blue.
- Mother Clucker operated in that spot for roughly a year and a half before its closure at the end of 2025.
- Before that, the space was home to Florida-based BurgerFi.
- Once AR’s opens in Leawood, its hours will be the same as the other locations: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
AR’s serves breakfast and brunch fare
The restaurant is known for Mexican breakfast dishes like breakfast tacos, chilaquiles and breakfast burritos.
Besides its savory dishes, the menu also offers lots of sweeter items like horchata waffles, nutella and banana crepes, cinnamon roll pancakes.
AR’s also serves brunch cocktails like mimosas, bloody marys and margaritas.
In addition to the breakfast items that are most familiar to customers, owner Oscar Romero said the new Leawood location will offer some new lunch items like sandwiches, wraps and salads.
Renovations to the Leawood space are already well underway. Romero said the Leawood space will have the same details people have come to know at the other locations: grass accents, wooden tables and a bar anchoring the space.
AR’s is not done growing yet — next up is Olathe
The original AR’s opened in downtown Overland Park in the summer of 2023.
Another AR’s location later opened at 105 S. Clairborne Road in Olathe, though that one has since closed in anticipation of the Santa Fe and I-35 corridor overhaul project. It was one of several restaurants and other businesses to do so.
Though the details have yet to be finalized, Romero said he does hope to reopen the Olathe location elsewhere later this year. AR’s also now has a location in Kansas City, Missouri’s Westport neighborhood.
Though he didn’t necessarily think it would happen this soon, Romero said Leawood has always felt like a good fit for AR’s.
When a Park Place space became available, everything lined up in the right way. In fact, he said, the area reminded him a lot of where AR’s got its start in the first place, further north.
“Park Place is beautiful, and it resembles a lot of downtown Overland Park,” he said. “We figured it would be a great fit.”
